Medical assistant programs are available in most parts of the United States. Medical assisting is a wonderful career that offers a wide variety of options professionally. Most medical offices across the nation hire Medical Assistants (MAs) to work in vital operations of the office. MAs can work in reception, billing, rooming patients, procedures, and/or operations. The specialty of the office does not determine whether or not an MA can work there, either. Medical assistants are needed in most offices no matter if they specialize in rheumatology, oncology, urology, wound care, or anything in-between.

Finding time to go back to school is one of the most challenging parts of the program. Fortunately, most programs offer multiple times of day when students can go to class. There is usually a night program and a day program offered. There are pros and cons of both programs which should be weighed for your specific circumstances before you make any decisions.

Day Program

Pros

Choosing to go through a day program of medical assisting is probably the fastest way to go through the program. Most day programs will go from around 8 am to 2 pm with a small break for lunch. Dedicating that much time each day will allow students to go through the program very quickly. Some may even be able to finish in 6-8 months.

Cons

It can be challenging to go to school during the day since most full-time jobs will overlap with the schedule. Some programs offer scholarships to help their students with this challenge.

Night Program

Pros

Night school is a wonderful choice for students who need to work during the day or care for their families while their partner is at work. This allows students to chip away at their schooling while not upsetting too much about their regular lives. Night classes offer a bit more flexibility for busy students.

Cons

Since you will be in class for less time each day, night school can take longer than day classes. Another challenge is that once you get to the part of the program where you need to complete your internship, they usually take place during the day. Eventually, you will probably need to figure out how to transition to make medical assisting take place during the day.

In conclusion, no matter which time of day you decide to go to school, medical assisting will be worth your time. No matter where you live in the country you will likely find a plethora of medical assisting jobs to choose from.
